Inside of a Designer Home
Inside An Interior Designer's home
“I would love to see what your home looks like…” is one of the first things clients ask me when we first chat and get to know each other. I usually don’t say this, but what I really want to say is: A designer home is just like any other! It gets messy and disorganized, and I too have to clean hand prints off the wall from my 3 year old’s paint experiment. I love my home because it contains a real life and a beautiful mess. However, when you first walk in you would not be able to know this at first glance…
A French Home starts in the kitchen.
In my home, it’s all about the cooking, entertaining, and relaxing. What can I say – I’m French! This is why when we remodeled our house, we put the kitchen at the center of it all. How many times did you have guests crammed around a small countertop and not enjoying your beautiful living room? If you are a fan of the open concept style of living, make sure to showcase that beautiful kitchen! For us, this is the best representation of a lifestyle we thrive to live by.
Plants and Deceptions
“Is this real?” I love that question! If your guests enter a room and ponder over one of the numerous plant or flower arrangements, don’t dread that question! That means it’s working.
As a busy mom and business owner, I have no time to care for another living thing… but I love the look of plants. I learned this trick from my grandmother: mix artificial and real plants around your home. Real and fake, fake and real…nobody will know. Shhhh!
Pet and Kid friendly home?
I love beautiful interiors! Shopping for others for a living makes it hard to stay “good” all the time! So I shop. Like any other mom, I see myself worrying about how I can safely display the beauties I find or how long it will take for my 65lbs pooch to claw a new pillow. Then I stop myself and always remember that most things can be replaced or cleaned up. A home should reflect your way of life, and every member of the family should have a say in it. You may ask the question “Can I have an interior that is pet and kid friendly?” My answer: Of course! I personally chose special fabrics for my living spaces, designed dedicated storage for toys and pet supplies, etc… but most of all, I decided to not sweat the small stuff and keep the irreplaceable heirlooms in boxes until he turns 18.

My dirty designer secret
This is probably selling me out on how messy my day to day life can be. If you are like me, some days you just don’t feel like it! I’m talking about dishes piled up in the sink (this is why we choose a deep double sink) and toys scattered everywhere because the child and dog need to “play” – but wait….*ring* *ring*….here comes the call, an impromptu visit! I used to panic before I started designing with this very factor in mind. Now, I can clean up my living room in 5 minutes. How? Baskets with lids, closed cabinets, small storage solutions, and organized closets! That my friends is the key to sanity. It’s not a permanent solution of course, but your messy life can be put away for a couple of hours and you can enjoy that cup of tea and much needed adult conversation without clutter.
Stylish cup of Joe.
My love for coffee is not a secret. I think it started in college, but after Luc was born, it became “essential” (thank you sleepless nights). Since I am a serious coffee snob, I decided to make it known and even showcase it. Coffee bars are my all time favorite thing to design! They can be such a simple add-on or complex setup… If you needed one more reason to keep drinking that delicious latte, ask no more.
